Filming Pudsey Bear in Coalville for BBC Children in Need

It’s not every day you get to spend your time following Pudsey Bear around Coalville with a camera.

Last week I had the pleasure of filming Pudsey alongside the brilliant Shake Up Coalville silent disco walking fitness girls as they made their way around the town as part of a project connected with BBC Children in Need.

It was one of those shoots that was just genuinely good fun from start to finish.

Following Pudsey through Coalville

The aim was to capture the group, Pudsey and the atmosphere of the day as naturally as possible while they made their way around Coalville.

With projects like this, I much prefer a documentary-style approach rather than constantly stopping people and staging shots.

Following the group meant I could capture the laughs, interactions and spontaneous moments as they happened especially the reactions you get when Pudsey suddenly appears walking through the middle of town!

The silent disco walking fitness group brought loads of energy to the shoot as well, which made it a brilliant project to film.

A brilliant local project

Being based near Coalville myself, I particularly enjoy getting involved with projects happening within the local community.

A lot of my work through Visual Elevation involves businesses, properties and events, but community projects like this are always a little bit different.

Being able to use videography to help document something involving BBC Children in Need, Pudsey and a local Coalville group was a real pleasure.

It was great fun, slightly chaotic at times particularly when you're trying to keep up with Pudsey and a walking fitness group while filming but that's exactly what made it enjoyable.

Capturing real moments

My style of videography is heavily focused around capturing what is actually happening.

For events and community projects, that means documenting the atmosphere, reactions and smaller moments that help tell the story rather than making everything feel overly staged.

This shoot was a perfect example of that.

Pudsey, a silent disco walking group and the streets of Coalville provided plenty to work with!

A massive thank you to everyone involved with Shake Up Coalville for letting me come along and capture it.

Definitely one of the more unusual shoots I've worked on recently and hopefully not the last.
