Capturing Two Friends Taking on Their First HYROX
This one was a bit different from a normal event job.
I was filming two friends as they took on their first HYROX together, with the aim of giving them something they could look back on afterwards rather than simply a few clips from the day.
They had both put the work in beforehand, so the video needed to capture more than just the finish line.
The brief
The idea was simple.
Follow them through the event, capture the key parts of the race and make sure the final video felt like their experience rather than a generic fitness edit.
That meant getting the big moments, but also the smaller ones between stations, the reactions, the tired looks, the laughs and the bits that showed what the day actually felt like.
The shoot
HYROX moves quickly, so a lot of the challenge is being in the right place at the right time.
I was moving around the venue trying to stay ahead of them, working out where they were heading next and making sure I could capture both of them without getting in the way.
Because they were competing rather than posing for content, everything had to be filmed as it happened.
That is what I liked about it.
There was no need to manufacture anything. The effort and emotion were already there.
The result
The finished video became a record of their first HYROX together.
It captured the hard parts, the atmosphere, the competition and the fact they had taken the challenge on as friends.
For me, that is where video works really well.
Sometimes the value is not about promoting a business or selling something. It is simply having something that takes you straight back to a day you worked hard for and do not want to forget.
